Conventions

CONVENTIONS GALORE!

Here's the Blue Gryphon's list of conventions where you will most likely see us if you happen to attend one (or a few).

As many (many) people know, the gryphons attend several conventions all year ’round, where they bring a selection of goods for people to buy and enjoy.

It is also possible for people to bring items such as videogames they no longer want, and we will gladly buy them from you.

Below is a list of the conventions we typically attend, and further down is a list of conventions we only occasionally or used to attend.

Anime North

Anime North (AN) is a non-profit, fan-run anime convention, held every year in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

The convention is the 4th largest North American anime convention as of 2017.

Its major attractions, activities and events include a Masquerade, a Dealers Room, an Artists Alley, Guest of Honor presentations, Gaming (Video and RPG), Panel Discussions, Video Presentations, Contests, and Dances.

Can Games

CanGames is an annual gaming convention that has taken place in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, since 1977. It occurs every year on the Canadian May (Victoria Day) long weekend.

CanGames features gaming in both English and French and offers trophies to winners.
The convention was originally conceived, organized, and continues to be run by a committee of volunteers.

Comiccon Montreal

The Montreal Comiccon (French: Le Comiccon de Montréal), under its current form, was launched in 2006 as “Montreal Comiccon”.
The event features comic books, toys, games, science-fiction, horror, anime, non-sport cards and collectibles.
It is held 2 times a year at the Palais des Congrès convention center in downtown Montreal, with the larger “Comic-Con” taking place in July over the course of 3 days.
The same organizers also hold a smaller one or two-day “Mini-Con”, traditionally held at the end of the fall season, in early December.

Comiccon Ottawa

The Ottawa Comiccon is a fan convention with a focus on comics, sci-fi, horror, anime, and games. It is a spin-off of the Montreal Comiccon and it was launched in 2012.
The event features comic books, toys, games, science-fiction, horror, anime, non-sport cards, and collectibles.

It is held at the EY Centre convention center in Ottawa, taking place in May and lasting three days.
The organizers of the Ottawa Comiccon primarily come from the Montreal Comiccon organization.
As with the Montreal Comiccon, the organizers also run a smaller two-day convention in November–December called the “Ottawa Mini-Comiccon”.

Comiccon Quebec

Québec City Comiccon is a pop-culture fan convention that showcases artists and products from entertainment genres like: Sci-fi, Horror, Anime, Gaming in all its forms, and, of course, bande dessinée and comic books.

G-Anime (Winter edition)

G-Anime is an annual weekend anime convention held in late January in Gatineau, Quebec, Canada at the Palais des congrès de Gatineau. The convention is run and organized by La Société d’Animation Japonaise de Gatineau (SAJG).

Mini-Comiccon Montreal

The Montreal Mini-Comiccon is a smaller, one or two days version of the bigger  “Montreal Comiccon”.

It is  traditionally held at the end of the fall season, in early December. The event features comic books, toys, games, science-fiction, horror, anime, non-sport cards and collectibles.
It takes place at the Palais des Congrès convention center in downtown Montreal.

Mini-Comiccon Ottawa

As with the Montreal Mini-Comiccon, the Ottawa Mini-Comiccon is a smaller, two days version of the bigger  “Ottawa Comiccon”.

It is traditionally held at the end of the fall season, November-December.

Otakuthon

Otakuthon is Quebec’s largest anime convention promoting Japanese animation (anime), Japanese graphic novels (manga), related gaming and Japanese pop-culture(music, cinema, television).

It is held annually for 3 days in downtown Montreal during a weekend in August.

As with most other anime conventions, Otakuthon offers a wide range of programming, exhibits, and other events. Otakuthon’s programming consists of cosplay events, a masquerade, vendors, an Artists’ Area, panels and workshops, game shows, anime video screenings, dances, karaoke and music concerts.

Here is a list of the conventions that we only attend occasionally, or that we used to attend in the past .

Animara Con

Cosplay, Japanese animation and video game enthusiasts are invited to join a welcoming community of creative individuals to celebrate their passions together. Animara Con’s fifth edition was held in 2018 in Sherbrooke. While the pandemic hit them for a bit, they are now back and running.

Animaritime

Animaritime is an anime and gaming convention founded by members of the Mount Allison University anime club. Their goal is to create a convention that is a home for us to guide and nurture the love of diverse cultures.

The convention was first held as an anime-only convention on the university campus in Sackville, N.B. in 2004. It was the first anime con to be held in the Canadian Maritimes. Animaritime moved to Fredericton, N.B. in 2013.

Con Bravo

ConBravo! is an annual fan-run anime, gaming, and new media convention held during July in Ontario, Canada since 2010.

The convention was created as a multi-genre event which has given it much of its framework, but has since begun to tout its specialization in the aforementioned areas.
It is notable for the special attention it has paid to online personalities.

Comiccon Toronto

Toronto ComiCon is an annual comic book and pop culture convention held in Toronto, Ontario, Canada at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre since 2001.

G-Anime (Summer edition)

G-Anime is a smaller, annual weekend anime convention held in July in Gatineau, Quebec, Canada at the Palais des congrès de Gatineau. The convention is run and organized by La Société d’Animation Japonaise de Gatineau (SAJG).

Rubikcon

Rubikcon is a convention based in Drummondville about video games, technologies, japanese culture, science fiction and medieval thematic, and held in early March.

Shawicon

Shawicon was a two days event in February to allow attendees to enjoy both Quebec and international pop culture. It was possible to meet special guests, take photos and have autographs, as well as participate in panels.
The event also featured retro-gaming, videogames tournament, card games tournament, vendors from many different horizons who offer a variety of merchandise, and more.
